FRESNO, Cali.--The Fresno State women's golf team completed day one of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational and is in a tie for sixth place out of 14 teams. The Bulldogs shot 14-over par on the day for a total score of 602 (300-302).
"We did a better job managing our way around the golf course today and minimizing mistakes," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said.
The Bulldogs are tied with Oregon and are ahead of No. 13th ranked UC Davis.
The two-day tournament is held at Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif.
Madchen Ly leads the Bulldogs and is tied for 11th place. Ly (74-74--148) shot two over par in both round one and two. Ly made six birdies in the first two rounds.
"Madchen did very good all day," Cates-Moore said. "She continued to hit the ball solid and she made putts. Her six birdies today were great!
Freshman Hannah Sodersten trails just behind Ly with a six-over par finish on the first day (74-76--150) to sit in a tie for 20th place.
Sodersten, who began the day four-over par after the first four holes, pushed to finish round one two-over par. In round two Sodersten birdied on hole eight and eagled on the 10th hole.
"Hannah did a really great job hanging in there after a rough starts this morning," Cates-Moore said.
The Bulldogs tee off round three of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on Tuesday, March 5th at 8:15 a.m.
