Fresno State in Fifth at Oregon Duck Invitational
March 27, 2006
FRESNO, Calif. - Laura Luethke shot an opening-round 71 at the Oregon Duck Invitational to help Fresno State (311) to fifth place through 18 holes.
After getting off to a late start Monday morning due to a frost delay, darkness postponed the second round with approximately four holes left.
With one round complete, Luethke (36-35) is tied for second in the field of 85 golfers. She trails leader Jennifer Tucker of Idaho by only one stroke.
"This course really suits Laura's game because she can work the ball pretty well," said head coach Angie Cates. "She knows how to hit draws and fades on call and she can get herself around these big Northwest trees. She is in good shape right now."
Idaho leads the 16-team field with a four-player score of 300, while Fresno State trails fourth-place Oregon State (310) by only one stroke.
The remaining holes of the second round followed by the final round will be played Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m.
