FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's golf team opened up their 2012-13 season in Fort Collins, Colo. at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic on Monday. After day one of the two-day tournament, the Bulldogs shot a 29-over (306-299-605) to sit in ninth place out of 17 teams.
"One of our goals is to be consistently breaking 300, so that was a positive we were able to take away from these afternoon rounds," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said.
The `Dogs finished round one in 14th place. However, Christine Uhalde helped the `Dogs inch their way to the top ten with a comeback in round two. Uhalde completed round one of the tournament with a 79 and then shot one under par at 71 in round two. Uhalde had the best total score of the day for the Bulldogs.
Madchen Ly also assisted the `Dogs to ninth place. Ly shot a 77 in round one followed by a 73 during round two.
Freshman Hannah Sodersten, played in her first collegiate tournament and shot a 74 in round one, which was the best round one score for the `Dogs.
Uhalde, Ly and Sodersten all sit in a tie for 23rd place with a total score of 150 and six over par.
The Bulldogs' were constructive in their first day of competition and saw the areas they need to improve in.
"Tomorrow is going to be a really good day for the Bulldogs," Cates-Moore said.
The `Dogs will return to action on Tuesday at the 6,302 yard, par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club. The final round of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic will tee off at 6:30 a.m. PST. Follow live scoring at www.Golfstat.com and watch for a tournament recap at www.gobulldogs.com.
