Fresno, Calif.--The Fresno State women's golf team finished round two of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational today in 12th place out of 16 teams (327-309--636). The Bulldogs shot 21 over par and moved up three spots from their position in 15th place yesterday.
"We improved a lot today which was great to see," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said. "I think we are a little more comfortable on this golf course now, but we still have one more round on this golf course and it is going to be a demanding round."
The Bulldogs teed off at 10:30 a.m. in cloudy and cold Northwest weather. Each of the five competing Bulldogs improved their game and moved up from yesterday's position.
Freshman Hannah Sodersten sits in a tie for 14th place out of 83 players. Sodersten (78-72--150) finished even par and made birdies on holes two, six and 18.
"Hannah was consistent in hitting fairways and greens out there and that is what you need to do on this golf course," Cates-Moore said. "She managed her game really well today and we are all very happy for her."
Madchen Ly also had a comeback performance on the course today. Ly (86-76--162) hit four over par and made two birdies.
"Madchen had a lot more confidence out on the golf course today and that helped her," Cates-Moore said.
"You have to play this golf course with patience. It is not a golf course that you can be aggressive on. You have to hit smart shots and you have to play with confidence and you have to be committed to the shot you are choosing. If you can do those things, you are going to have a good round, so those will be our goals for tomorrow."
The Bulldogs tee off round three at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. on Wednesday at 8 a.m. Follow the 'Dogs on www.golfstat.com.
