NORMAN, Okla. -- Freshman Hannah Sodersten and sophomore Madchen Ly represented the Fresno State women's golf team at the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. on Monday and Tuesday.
Sodersten became the second Bulldog to qualify and advance to match play. Former Bulldog Laura Luethke qualified for match play in 2006 and 2008. Ly finished in the top 70 and missed qualifying for the round of 64 match play by one shot.
"This has really been a great experience for both Hannah and Madchen," said head coach Angie Cates Moore We are so proud of Hannah, this is a tremendous field of players in Oklahoma and she's right in the mix."
Sodersten was six over par (76, 74 --150) in the first two rounds and finished tied for 41st. She ended the second day with a strong second round for her lowest score of the tournament. Sodersten carded four birdies and had a total of five in the first two rounds.
Ly concluded the first two rounds tied for 69th place. She was 10 over par (75, 79--154) in the opening rounds of the tournament. Ly recorded a birdie on the first and 13th holes in her first round.
The round of 64 matches begins Wednesday and Sodersten faces Whitney French of Oregon State. She tees off at 11:09 a.m. PT. Fans can follow live scoring at usga.org.
