Five `Dogs Earn All-American Scholar Award
July 1, 2009
FRESNO, Calif. - Five Fresno State women golfers were named to the 2008-09 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Hali Coppin, Lindi Covarrubias, Louisa Lies, Pia Escandon and Taylor Siebert earned the honor based on their GPAs. "To have over 80% of a team earn the NGCA All-American Scholar Award is a very special accomplishment," said Head Coach Angie Cates-Moore. "Our team understands that student comes first in student-athlete." The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the strictest in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. "They work hard in the classroom and on the golf course and we are very proud of them," said Cates-Moore. The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
