FRESNO, Calif. -- Within only a few weeks of becoming the second-ever Fresno State head women's golf coach Emily Milberger released the Bulldog's schedule for the 2013-14 season.
"I am very excited about this season's schedule," Milberger said. "These events will showcase our talent against some strong competition."
The Bulldogs have six returning members including seniors Hillary Billingsley, Krysta Clark, Alison Timlin, and Taylor Wilkinson. Along with the four seniors are junior Madchen Ly and sophomore Hannah Sodersten. Joining the 'Dogs this season are freshman Sandra "Sandy" Livas and Laura Scrivner.
"There is so much experience in this year's team and lots of talent from our incoming freshmen that this is going to be an exciting season," Milberger said. Between the mixture of upper and lower classmen, the Bulldogs will carry on the deep trademark that many great and successful past Bulldogs have demonstrated.
In all but two of the ten tournaments this season, the 'Dogs return as tournament veterans.
The 'Dogs tee off their fall season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. on Sept. 9-10.
When the Fresno State women's golf program first began in 2004, the Ptarmigan Ram Classic was the first competitive tournament in which the Bulldogs competed. Bulldog Laura Luethke took home the individual title with a 213 (68-74-71) finish.
The 'Dogs will then travel to Albuquerque, N.M. and compete for the first time in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
The Bulldogs then trek to Palm Springs, Calif. to compete in the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate as defending champions. In the 2012 Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, the 'Dogs shot 21 over par and made a tournament record with a total score of 885 (291-289-305).
Along with a team title, Madchen Ly carded five birdies and shot two under par (70-77-70--217) to take home a second place finish. Hannah Sodersten followed Ly with a tie for fifth place at six over par, 222 (75-71-76).
Following the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate, the Bulldogs will close out their fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The 'Dog's spring season will then commence on Feb. 15-16 at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
The 'Dogs' spring season comprises of six tournaments including their host tournament, the Fresno State Lexus Classic, which will be held on March 17-18th at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
Again for the first time, the Bulldogs will compete in the New Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif. on April 14-15.
The Bulldogs will then conclude their 2013-14 schedule at the Mountain West Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. on April 24-26.
At their first-ever Mountain West Championship in April 2013, the Bulldogs fought for their spot on the leaderboard and took home third place. On the tournament, the Bulldogs recorded 54-over par, 918 (306-308-304) and each of the five individuals in the Bulldog lineup placed in the top 20 of the 40-player field.
The Bulldog's ultimate goal this season is to work hard and succeed on the course, Milberger said.
"With the team's heart and determination, I know we will accomplish our goal," Milberger said.
