Women's Golf Announces Signing of Villareal

FRESNO, Calif. - Women's golf head coach Angie Cates announced the signing of Maria Angelica Villareal. A native of Vista, Calif. she will be eligible to play for the 2007-08 season upon her completion at Cathedral Catholic High School.
Villareal signed her National Letter of Intent earlier in the week to ensure her spot on the squad. She will be joining the `Dogs with an impressive resume including a second place finish at High School League and tying for sixth at the San Diego Sectionals. She has also received recognition with the Breitbard Athletic Award First Team and the Union Tribune First Team All-American all four years of high school.
Villareal was ranked fifth in San Diego in 2005 and sixth in 2006. She took second at the AGJA Medicus 2006 and she was chosen to represent San Diego at Mary Cave Cup and Junior America's Cup.
"Angelica is going to be a great fit with our team," said Cates, who refers to Villareal as Angelica. "She's a tremendous student athlete, loves to compete and is ready for the next level. Her game has excelled in the past few years and we're looking forward to her continued success here at Fresno State."
