BERKELEY, Calif. --- Despite a second half comeback, the Fresno State lacrosse team dropped a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game to Cal, 11-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Kabam Field in Berkeley, Calif.

"I think we had multiple chances on the field today, we just need to finish them, "said Fresno State head coach Jessica Pausewang. "Winning the draw control battle was really important for us today."

Fresno State scored the first goal of the game and hung tight with the Bears to start the day. The 'Dogs then allowed five answered goals to trail 8-3 at the break.

The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 4-1 run to cut Cal's lead to 9-7 with eight minutes reaming. The Bears then pulled away with two more goals, outscoring Fresno State 11-7 for the conference win.

Senior Kara Concheck and sophomore Anjelica Fuccillo led the Bulldogs with a team-high three goals each. Concheck also posted one assists to finish the day with four points. Kyleigh Westgarth added one goal and two draw controls for Fresno State.

The Bulldogs led the Bears on the draw 12-9, backed behind Caroline Dineen-Carlson's four draw controls.

On the defensive end, senior Ashley Phillips recorded a career-high five groundballs and added two caused turnovers for the 'Dogs. In net, Meganne Weissenfels had three saves and one groundball in 33 minutes in cage, while Lisa Barnaba added one save and two groundballs in split time.



"The biggest thing we need to focus on going into our next game is finishing our shots, "added Pausewang. "I am really proud of them for digging deep today, but we need to finish and get the win, especially when we work that hard."

Fresno State (2-10, 1-6 MPSF) next travels to play UC Davis in an MPSF game on Friday at 4 p.m. in Aggie Stadium.
