WOODLAND, Calif.- The Bulldogs' dynamic duo, Marcy Levatino and Anjelica Fuccillo, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 17-14 season-opening win over Presbyterian on Sunday afternoon. In doing so they both earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) honors, sweeping two of three awards on the week. Levatino earned MPSF Offensive Player of the Week and Fuccillo was named MPSF Rookie of the Week.
Coming off the bench, Levatino added the fire that the 'Dogs needed, shooting 78 percent on the day. The sophomore midfielder put the ball in the back of the net seven times, breaking the Fresno State record for goals and points scored in a single game. Levatino not only dominated on attack, but on the draw as well, coming up with eight draw controls, which also broke the record for draw controls in a single game. A dominant midfielder, Levatino also picked up five groundballs for the Bulldogs and forced two caused turnovers.
In her college debut, Fuccillo scored 4 goals for the 'Dogs, three of which came from a free-position where she was 100 percent. The freshmen attacker played well off her teammates and added two assists in the victory. In midfield transitions, Fuccillo helped re-defend and also forced two caused turnovers for the Bulldogs.
This is the second and third time that Bulldogs have earned MPSF Player of the Week.
Fresno State is 1-0 on the season and next plays La Salle on March 5 in San Diego. The first chance to the see the team at Bulldog Stadium will come when the 'Dogs host MPSF opponent California on March 19 at 5 p.m. PT.
