FRESNO, Calif. -
Emily Erwin has come on strong for the Fresno State women's lacrosse team as she has tallied five goals and one assist since being inserted into the starting lineup five games ago. Recently, Gobulldogs.com sat down with Erwin to talk to her about her switch to playing lacrosse.
What attracted you to playing lacrosse?
I have played sports my whole life. I was a sophomore and I just took it as something new that I could do. I have a friend on the soccer team who told me to try out. The sport is a little more strenuous than I thought it would be but all-in-all it is what I expected.
What was your favorite sport to compete in out of golf, soccer and track?
Track. I was a pole vaulter and that was my main thing I did. I really liked it. I had a personal record at 12'6 my senior year.
Have you ever seen Derek Jeter and the Yankees play in person?
I saw them when they played in Oakland against the A's.
What is something people may not know about you?
I really like to write anything.
If you could invite three people to dinner who would they be and why?
I'd invite my sister because she is my best friend. I'd invite Derek Jeter and Diane Sawyer because I want to be a journalist.
Favorite food?
Chinese food and sushi.
What makes lacrosse a fun sport to play?
It's unlike anything I have ever done before. It is a lot of fun and I really enjoy it.
What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
I used to be a cross country runner and I hated it so I started doing golf. It was one of my first matches. I didn't know how to play that well. I was teeing off and I didn't know how to use my driver. I was using my three-wood and my first set of clubs was graphite. I teed off with my three wood and broke my head off. The head went further than the ball.
