FRESNO, Calif. --- Earning its fifth academic award as a program, the Fresno State lacrosse team was named to the 2014 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Squad on Monday.
This is the third straight IWLCA honor for the Bulldogs under head coach Jessica Pausewang, who has been at the helm of the program since 2011.
"I am very proud of the team for being able to balance academics as well as athletics last season," said Pausewang. "Being nominated to my third straight season coaching here as an all-academic team is great, it's what we strive for."
The IWLCA recognized 84 schools as IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Squads for the 2014 season. To qualify for the award the team must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Fresno State was one of seven schools from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation to earn squad honors for this past season. Joining the Bulldogs on the prestigious list was Oregon, Saint Mary's, San Diego State, Stanford, University of Southern California and the reigning conference champion, University of Denver.
In addition to being named an academic honor squad this past year, the Bulldog lacrosse team totaled over 1,200 hours of community service in the Valley.
"Being able to give back to give back to the community this past year shows how well balanced our team is," added Pausewang. "I look forward to continuing the tradition here."
