FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head lacrosse coach Jessica Pausewang announced the addition of three student-athletes to the Bulldog roster on Wednesday. Anjelica Fuccillo, Chyna Hill and Meganne Weissenfels will join the Bulldog ranks for the 2012-13 season.
"Coach Carlee Buck and I feel with the addition of these three young ladies we are ready to take this program to the next level," Pausewang said. "Our current Bulldogs will begin putting the pieces in place for us to be successful this year; and, with the addition of these three solid players, the program is on the track for greatness."
Midfielder Fuccillo comes to the `Dogs from Eastport South Manor High School in New York, where she played varsity for four years. In addition to her experience in high school she played five years for the Long Island Express club as a member of their Blue Team.
"Anjelica is a true midfielder, she is aggressive on both the midfield and defensive ends. Anjelica has been impressing me for two years as a player and I'm excited to get the chance to coach her. Her ability to remain calm under pressure in the midfield and being a steady threat on attack is exactly where we are going with this program," Pausewang said.
Midfielder Hill joins the `Dogs with eight years of experience under her belt. The New York native played for Metro Magic and Hudson Valley Hurricanes club teams and at Lakeland- Panas High School. She was a member of the nationals' team and named all-section, all-league, first team in Class A and first team in Section I as a junior.
Hill was also named all-league in cross country and all-league in indoor track for the 4x800, 4x400 and 4x400 Millrose Trails.
"Chyna is going to be a great addition to our defensive midfield. She's an exceptional athlete with great field vision and has the capability to take charge on defense. Chyna consistently comes up with caused turnovers to get the ball up to offense where most defenders get scored on," Pausewang said.
Goalie Weissenfels was added to the Bulldogs roster with seven years of lacrosse experience. During that time period she received Islander Academic Achievement Award in Math and History 2011, AP Scholar with Distinction Award, first-team all-league, second-team All-CIF, ESPN Watchlist 2011, and ESPN number 10 girl's lacrosse 2012 goalie in the nation.
Weissenfels also played varsity basketball for four years and was best defensive player in 2010 and 2011.
"Meganne will spark up for Fresno State in goal. She plays with a determination in the cage and a desire to improve herself. She will continue to grow in cage, learn from the two goalies we have currently playing for us, and will be a threat for us on defense," Pausewang said.
Fresno State lacrosse returns to the field for the 2012 season in February.
