FRESNO, Calif. - As new head coach Jessica Pausewang continues to recruit talented players, she is also focused on putting together a talented staff that will help lead the 'Dogs to a successful season.

Pausewang announced Tuesday that Lauren Schmidt has been added to the Fresno State lacrosse program as an assistant coach. The team is prepared for a turnaround season with the combination of Pausewang, assistant coach Carlee Buck and Schmidt.

"I am really excited to work with the team," Schmidt said. "I think they are a really hard working group of athletes. I have respected them for the past four years Stanford has played against them. I really appreciated their work ethic they brought which was the biggest thing that drew me to the program."

A Stanford alumni and Long Island native, Schmidt has years of playing experience under her belt. Beginning with high school and continuing through college, she has accumulated numerous awards and academic achievements.

At Stanford, Schmidt was named an All-American in 2011 and received honorable mention in 2010. She played on the National team two years in a row and was National All-American in 2010. Schmidt was the MPSF Conference Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011 as well as four-time all-conference honoree. The Stanford lacrosse program went to the NCAA Regionals in 2010 and 2011 and was also ranked top 10 both years, which was a program high.

Schmidt received her undergrad in human biology from Stanford in the spring of 2011. She then volunteered as an assistant coach for the Stanford lacrosse team and helped with day-to-day operations.

Pausewang is very excited to have Schmidt added to her staff and believes she will be a valuable asset to the program.

"I think she is going to bring some really great things to the midfield that we can really use," Pausewang said. "She has national playing experience and was an All-American. She knows the conference and I believe she is going to be a good leader for the girls on and off the field both lacrosse-wise and academics.

"I think myself, Carlee and the girls are really excited to have Lauren here. We have been searching for an assistant coach for a little while and I couldn't be happier. I am excited to have her and I think it is going to be a great step forward for Fresno State lacrosse."
