FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 6 top moment in Fresno State Athletics in 2012 was lacrosse winning its first game in the programs history in Bulldog Stadium on St. Patrick's Day.

After coming up short three years running, this win was much anticipated. Fresno State head women's lacrosse coach Jessica Pausewang knew this day would come sooner than later. Just three games into her career at Fresno State, Pausewang led the Bulldogs to the program's first win on March 17, 2012.

"The team has worked so hard and they wanted to be able to show everyone," Pausewang said. "I'm so excited, the support has been great, and I'm just so happy for everyone."

Fresno State led wire-to-wire in a day filled with sunshine and rain, and a couple of shamrocks, beating Long Island 17-12 at Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs jumped in front one minute into the game, and never trailed from that point on. Sophomore Briana Hetherington led the way for Fresno State with four goals and freshman Holly Cisneros had three goals and one assist.

As the final horn sounded, the Bulldogs rushed the field to celebrate the program's first win since starting in 2009.

The Bulldogs went on to win two more games in their season. Including the No. 1 upset of the year, beating UC Davis, 12-11 in double overtime for their first conference win in the MPSF.
