FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State soccer team dropped its preseason exhibition game to UC Irvine, 2-0 on Friday night at the Soccer/Lacrosse field.
UC Irvine posted its first goal in the 27th minute with a goal from sophomore Victoria Russo. The Anteaters scored goal number two in the second have to secure the 2-0 win over the Bulldogs.
"We knew that UC Irvine coming in was going to be a very good team, we scheduled that on purpose," said Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka. "We aren't as worried about the result verses the idea that we applied the things we have been working on, and we feel pretty good about that."
"We were trying some new players out in some new positions today," said Zwaschka. "This was really good for us. Of course you don't want to lose any game, but when we can learn lessons, it's the right thing to do at this point in the season."
The Bulldogs kick off their 2013 season with two road games starting with UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 23, followed by Cal State Fullerton two days later.
The 'Dogs then return to Bulldog Stadium for their home opener on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The Fresno State Soccer team is attempting to break the national attendance record for a women's soccer game. Join the team in making history as they take on Santa Clara for Project 9000!
