SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- The Fresno State soccer team dropped its season opener against UC Santa Barbara 2-0 on Friday night.

The Gauchos jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal from Allie Ariniello in the 29th minute, Geneve Dromensk picked up the assist on the play.

In the 52nd minute Madison Buckley put the Gauchos up 2-0 with an assist from Dakota Grigg.

The `Dogs posted five of their six shots in the second half, but were unable to put the ball past the Gauchos' goalie. In the eighth meeting of the two teams, UC Santa Barbara outshot Fresno State 12-6 to secure the 2-0 win.

Six different Bulldogs recorded shots in the team effort including senior Megan Mossman, Jaycee Bingham, Alyssa Cruz, Morgan Castain, Rianna Cota and Amanda Nunes.

The Bulldogs have one day off before they are back in action at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday Aug. 25 at 4 p.m.

The 'Dogs then return to Bulldog Stadium for their home opener on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The Fresno State soccer team is attempting to break the national attendance record for a women's soccer game. Join the team in making history as they take on No. 16 Santa Clara for Project 9000!
