FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State lost a tough match 2-1 against Cal State Bakersfield. Freshman Molly Nizzoli scored her first career goal.

The Roadrunners went up 1-0 after Kassi Massey slipped the ball past Kaitlyn Revel.

"Congrats to them, they played extremely hard and with a lot of passion," said Coach Steve Springthorpe. "They deserve the win. They put pressure on us and we weren't able to handle that pressure."

Cal State Bakersfield increased their lead 2-0 after Chrissy Smith deflected a shot and then it bounced off a Roadrunner into the goal.

The Bulldogs did not give up continuing to battle and take shots at the Roadrunners goalkeeper Marin Constantinou.

The Bulldogs scored their only goal of the night in the 87th minute of play. Molly Nizzoli scored off a pass from Nicole Duff.

"It was a nice finish and well placed," said Springthorpe. "Molly showed composure and scored a key goal at the end of the game."

The Roadrunners won the first annual "Valley Cup" and will keep the trophy until the two teams meet next year.

"We didn't match their intensity and being two teams from the valley battling for the trophy we should have come ready to play," said Springthorpe. "We look forward to playing Sunday and the chance to turn things around playing with a little more fire and zeal."
