SEATTLE, Wash.--- The Fresno State soccer team fell 5-0 to No. 20/23 Portland Friday night in the Husky/Nike Invitational in Seattle, Wash on the Husky Soccer Field. Portland's Amanda Frisbie scored the first four goals for the Pilots.

"We are again left feeling like this was an important contest in this team's development," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "Portland is a perennial national contender and the kind of company we hope to keep. We had spells of play in the match, including the creation of excellent scoring chances. The biggest difference was in clinical finishing today, and Portland is in a different class. If we begin to convert what we create we will be in good shape for conference play. That is our focus and the reason we are improving instead of being discouraged. Todays match was very positive despite the scoreline."

The Pilots got on the board early in the match when Frisbie started her scoring streak in the fifth minute by putting the ball in the upper right hand corner to put Portland ahead 1-0. Frisbie moved the Pilots ahead 2-0 off of a corner kick by Michelle Cruz in the 22nd minute.

The `Dogs battled for the last 20 minutes of the first half to stay within striking distance for a comeback in the second half. Fresno State had a chance to get on the scoreboard with a corner kick towards the end of the first half. Junior Lauren Lindstrom got her head on the ball but it sailed just wide of the goal.

In the second half, Frisbie picked up where she left off in the first half. She secured a hat trick in the 46th minute and put the Pilots in front 4-0 a minute later with a long shot from the right side of the box. The final goal was scored 15 minutes later when Portland's Kaila Cameli put the ball in the back of the net for a 5-0 lead for the Pilots.

The 'Dogs again had late opportunities to score including a shot on goal by junior Kayla Kret with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.

Fresno State will continue play in the Husky/Nike Invitational on Sunday when the 'Dogs take on the Washington Huskies at 1:30 p.m. on the Husky Soccer Field.
