    Box Score

SAN DIEGO - Fresno State (1-4) continued to struggle in the early going of the 2002 campaign. Despite scoring two early goals, the Bulldogs dropped their fourth match of the season with a 4-2 loss against San Diego (4-1-1).

FS, which has yet to play a regular season match at home this season, ran into the first of two West Coast Conference powerhouses it will face this weekend.

Things seemed to be off to a good start as freshman midfielder Kortney Lewis (Visalia, Calif.) scored her third and fourth goals of the season in the first four minutes of action to give the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.

Last season the Bulldog's leading scorers had five goals. Lewis has netted four in just five matches this season and leads the team with eight points. Her 10 shots this season are tied for the team lead with freshman forward Katri Nokso-Koivisto (Kokkola, Finland).

After the Bulldogs' scores, it was downhill from then on. Fresno State attempted only four shots the rest of the match with none being on goal, while San Diego fired 15 with six being on goal.

The Toreros awoke at the 12:31 mark when Lee Anne Klopschinski scored her first of two goals on the night. Klopschinski would finish with two goals and an assist.

Fresno State took a 2-1 lead into halftime, but San Diego took over in the second half, scoring three times, while holding Fresno State to just two shots.

Marie Claude Henry and Val Strocco added goals in the second half for San Diego to seal the deal.

The other Bulldog to attempt more than one shot on the night was Nokso-koivisto with two. Seniors Susan Shivokevich (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Amber Karlsson (Clovis, Calif.) each had one shot.

Fresno State returns to action Sunday, at Pepperdine, 1 p.m.
