FRESNO, Calif. --- The Fresno State soccer team broke its three-game win streak with a 2-1 loss to Cal State Northridge on Sunday afternoon in Bulldog Stadium.

Fresno State (3-4) started the game off very strong, though fell flat in the second half and could not recover its deficit.

"Obviously we were a little concerned about playing one home and one away because of the travel," said Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka. "Not to make an excuse, but I think it caught up to us. We looked a little bit flat out in the heat in the second half today."

The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead, scoring in just the eighth minute of the game. On a breakaway run to the net, senior Morgan Castain put away her third goal of the year to put the 'Dogs up 1-0 over Cal State Northridge.

Fresno State was able to hold the Matadors' five shots off in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Katie DeVault recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes to send the Bulldogs into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Cal State Northridge didn't waste much time in the second half when Brittanie Sakajian found the back of the net in the 50th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Matadors went on to gain a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute with a goal from Amanda Smith.

Alyssa Cruz and Lauren Lindstrom were able to put two more great shots on goal, though the Bulldogs were unable to finish and fell to Cal State Northridge 2-1.

"We will keep working on the things we are doing well, and just executing, we didn't play completely poor, we just fell flat in the second half as it wore on," said Zwaschka. "We just need to build on the positives moving forward."
