SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Fresno State soccer team dropped its Mountain West opener to preseason favorite San Diego State on Friday night at the SDSU Sports Deck.

"Of course we are disappointed to kick off conference play with a loss," said Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka. "On a positive note we know that we played well and we were in the match the whole time."

The Aztecs were the first to score in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal from Hannah Keane.

Fresno State (3-6-1) tied the game at 1-1 in the 40th with a goal from senior Morgan Castain. Castain now leads the Bulldogs with five goals this season.

Keane struck again for San Diego State to regain a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute. The Bulldogs were unable to find the back of the net remainder of the game and dropped their first conference match to the Aztecs 2-1.

"San Diego State is one of the top teams in our conference, they are always going to be tough to face," added Zwaschka. "We came here to fight on the road, and we gave a very good team a good match. That will be the mentality that we will take into New Mexico on Sunday."

The Bulldogs next play New Mexico on Sunday at noon at the UNM Soccer Complex in Albuquerque, N.M.
