FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team got two goals from Amanda Reyes as the Bulldogs routed Idaho 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win ups the Bulldogs record to 9-6-1 and 4-1-1 in WAC play while Idaho dropped to 4-11-1 and 0-4-1 in conference.
"It was a good win," Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe said. "We did a good job defensively in limiting their opportunities."
Fresno State out shot Idaho 19-11 and had eight shot on goal attempts to the Vandals four. Nicole Gutierrez had five shot attempts and Reyes had four. Kaity Revel recorded her eighth shut out of the season.
Gutierrez put Fresno State up 1-0 in the ninth minute when she took a pass from Ali Sill and beat the keeper to the left corner of the net. Then in the 28th minute Reyes scored her first goal off a pass from Sill. Reyes' shot bounced in front of Vandal goalkeeper Anna Sandman and spun a different direction into the goal.
Reyes tallied her second goal 10 minutes into the second half when she scored off a cross pass from Gutierrez.
"She did a good job of getting in the attack," Springthorpe said. "She got forward and finished her chances."
Springthorpe added that he was pleased with the play of Sill and Chelsea Davis in the midfield.
"They really did a good job of winning balls today," the Bulldog coach said.
The Bulldogs play their final home game on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Cal-State Bakersfield. It is senior night for Andrea Alires, Aubrey Tennant, Megan Tennant, Chelsea Davis, Brittany Thomas, Christina Gilbert, Amanda Reyes and Andrea Salvador.
