FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head soccer coach Brian Zwaschka announced the 2013 schedule on Tuesday that is filled with a competitive nonconference slate to help prepare the Bulldogs for their second season in the Mountain West.

"Our 2013 schedule again represents a quality group of opponents comprised of teams from some of the most well-respected soccer conferences in the nation," Zwaschka said. "We competed last season knowing we were playing very well and in every match - in what was the most difficult schedule we've ever taken on. In 2013, it's time to put those lessons to good use and redefine what we are capable of achieving."

The Bulldogs begin the year with their annual Red/White scrimmage on Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. The 'Dogs conclude preseason action with an exhibition game against UC Irvine at home on Aug. 16.

The `Dogs kick off the regular season on the road with the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara on Aug. 23 and Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 25. Fresno State also has nonconference road trips to Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, UC Riverside, Sacramento State and Pepperdine.

"'Anybody, anytime, anywhere!' is our Bulldog motto, and that is how we look to proceed with this schedule and beyond," Zwaschka said.

The Bulldogs will host all seven home matches at Bulldog Stadium, including two nonconference contests, highlighted by a visit from Santa Clara. The Broncos, a perennial soccer powerhouse on the West Coast, participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and made it to the second round before falling to Stanford, 2-1. The 'Dogs also face CSU Northridge in front of the Red Wave before starting MW play.

Fresno State opens conference action at San Diego State and New Mexico on Sept. 27 and 29, respectively. The Bulldogs return to the San Joaquin Valley for a four-game homestand against Nevada, UNLV, Utah State and Boise State in early October.

The second half of the Mountain West schedule has the Bulldogs traveling to Air Force, Wyoming and San Jose State. The 'Dogs will celebrate Senior Night on Oct. 25 against Colorado State, which is their final home game of the 2013 season.

The New Mexico Lobos will host the 2013 Mountain West Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. from Nov. 4-9.

"We have hardened appropriately and there is a renewed focus," Zwaschka said. "Our investment on leadership from our returners will be the mortar in this team as we face yet another very difficult schedule. I feel it is appropriate preparation for conference play and setting the stage for the postseason. We are all looking forward to it."
