FRESNO, Calif. - The partnership between 1430 ESPN radio and Fresno State University continues to grow as an agreement has been made to broadcast four women's soccer games this year.
"The addition of soccer on 1430 ESPN radio continues the growth of this partnership," Associate Athletics Director Paul Ladwig said. "The ability to broadcast this number of events is unprecedented. I know our fans, alumni and parents appreciate having these events on the air."
The first game to be broadcast is the August 18 exhibition game at Fresno Pacific. Fans will also have the opportunity to listen to three Bulldog home games beginning October 7 against San Francisco. The remaining two home broadcasts are against Utah State (October 7) and Cal-State Bakersfield (November 1).
Guy Haberman and Paul Swearengin are set to broadcast the four matches.
"Having some of our games on the radio will give our fans, family members of our players and recruits and opportunity to listen to our team play when they are unable to attend the games in person," Fresno State women's soccer coach Steve Springthorpe said. "We look forward to having our games broadcast on 1430 ESPN Radio. I want to thank them for their commitment to our team and the entire athletic department of Fresno State University."
With the help of 1430 ESPN radio, who is in its second year of its partnership with the athletic department, Fresno State athletics has one of the largest Olympic sports coverage in the country.
Along with soccer, 1430 will broadcast five women's volleyball matches, all home games for women's basketball and softball along with selected road games.
The five women's volleyball broadcasts are against Idaho State (August 30), Oregon State (September 11), Nevada (September 27), Fresno Pacific (October 17), and Hawaii (November 2).
Last year 1430 and Fresno State athletics developed a radio program around the Equestrian team and match, that programming will continue in the 2007-08 season.
