The 'Dogs Picked to Finish Sixth in the Mountain West Preseason Poll

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State soccer team was picked to finsh sixth (73 points) in the 2014 Mountain West Preseason Coach's Poll that was released Wednesday. The voting panel was made up of 12 Mountain West head soccer coaches who collectively chose San Diego State to win the 2014 MW regular-season title.
With 115 total points and five first place votes, the Aztecs were favored to win their thirst straight Mountain West regular-season title. Conference newcomer Colorado College was selected second with 112 points and received five first-place votes, and Boise State followed in third place with 103 points and one first-place vote.
The `Dogs come off a second place finish in 2013 under MW Coach of the Year, Brian Zwaschka- four places better than their preseason poll position.
The Bulldogs finished their regular season with a 10-7-2 record and 7-2-1 conference record last year. The `Dogs made it to the Mountain West Tournament as the No. 2 seed in 2013 where their eight-game winning streak was ended by No. 3 seed Boise State in the semifinal round to conclude their season.
In prior years under Zwaschka, the `Dogs were picked sixth (2013), third (2012, '11), fifth (2010) and third (2009).
The `Dogs are gearing up for their 2014 season opener against Eastern Washington next Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
Fresno State is set to host its first two matches of the season at Bulldog Stadium before traveling to Iowa at the end of the month to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Drake University. The Bulldogs then return home on Sept. 12 to take on Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m.
