Fresno State Opens Season With Exhibition Match

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team begins the 2008 season with an exhibition game against Fresno Pacific Saturday at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs faced Fresno Pacific last year in an exhibition game and tied 2-2.
The Bulldogs bring back leadership and experience in the middle of the field and Springthorpe is confident in the eight freshmen added to the 2008 squad.
Leading scorer Nicole Gutierrez will be a force to reckon with on the frontline for Fresno State. First Team All-WAC selection Ali Sill will control the midfield and Selena Gill will lead the defense for the Bulldogs.
Also returning for the Bulldogs is sophomore goalkeeper and First Team All-WAC selection Kaitlyn Revel. Revel had nine shutouts and 71 saves last season.
The cross-town foes finished the 2007 season 8th in the Golden State Athletic Conference with an overall record of 7-6-4.
Jessica Pereschica returns at the striker position for the Sunbirds. Pereschica had seven goals and three assists last season.
The Bulldogs begin the regular season next week when they travel to San Francisco next week to face the Dons at 5 p.m. and return home to host UC Davis at 1 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.
