`Dogs Wrap Up Preseason with Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team ended their preseason preparations on a high note with a, 3-0, win in an exhibition match against Fresno Pacific. The Bulldog offense came alive in the match and the `Dogs got goals from juniors, Nicole Duff and Krissy Looney, and newcomer Bianca Lopez.
"Everybody has been training really hard and they executed today. We also created a lot of opportunities that we didn't finish on, but the hard part is getting the chances and we did really well at getting chances," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "It is great to have a game where we get three goals from three different players. It shows that we have a little bit of diversity in our attack."
The Bulldogs attacked the FPU back line early in the first period. The `Dogs fired 11 shots in the first 30 minutes included a close attempt by junior Megan Ashjian.
With 41 seconds left in the first period Janna Sadowitz turned the defender and slotted the ball in front of the net and Lopez poked it in giving the Bulldogs the lead, 1-0.
The offensive pressure carried over into the second period and freshman Callie Hancock had eight shots and two on goal. A minute into the second period Lopez passed the ball to Duff, who cut the ball back at the 18-yard box and drilled the ball in the back of the goal increasing the lead, 2-0.
"It's really excited that we beat Fresno Pacific because last time we played them it was a close game," said Duff. "It is exciting to be out here with the new team and Brian (Zwaschka) has taught us a lot. We have come together a lot with all the training we have be doing and we proved our hard work with the 3-0 win."
Looney capped off the scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal shot left footed from 25-yards out.
The Bulldogs outshot the Sunbirds, 28-4.The `Dogs played three 30 minute period against the Sunbirds.
"We have been working a lot on our offensive attack," said Duff. `We have been doing a lot of shooting and I think that has helped improve our game."
Fresno State kicks off the regular season on Aug. 21 at San Diego State.
"It is exciting for our first road trip to be against two tough opponents," said Zwaschka. "Everybody is geared up and ready for our first official competition."
