Des Moines, Iowa - The Fresno State soccer team lost 2-1 in a close match-up against Drake University today at the Crownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. The `Dogs have concluded their first pair of matches on the road for the 2014 season.
Goal one was scored by Drake in the first minutes of the match but the Bulldogs were able to minimize Drake's momentum in the first half by allowing them only 3 goal shot opportunities. Senior, Jaycee Bingham put away her third goal of the year for Fresno State making it a 1-1 game in the 18th minute of the second half.
"We had a slow start today and were punished for it," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "In the second half we played more for each other and got back into it with some fluidity, answering with a well-built goal."
The `Dogs battled with eight goal shots in the second half but were unable to score and came up short to Drake in the final minutes of the match.
Bulldog goal keeper, Alyssa Wilson held Drake at only one goal with six saves until a headed goal with 5 minutes left to play, giving the Drake Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
"Credit to Drake for making it very difficult for us," Zwaschka said. "We have learned a lot this weekend on such a long and difficult road trip. We will regroup this week and try to take things we learned on the road back on the road with us next weekend."
Fresno State is slated to a matchup with UC Irvine on Sept. 5 followed by Santa Clara on Sunday Sept. 7. The `Dogs will be back at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to take on Cal State Fullerton.
