COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Fresno State senior Morgan Castain was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the week, and Fresno State junior Katie DeVault was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the week on Monday. This is the third career MW weekly award for Castain, and the second for DeVault.
Castain and DeVault led the Bulldogs to two conference wins at home Nevada (3-1) and UNLV (1-0 OT) to improve the 'Dogs record to 5-7-1, 2-2 MW.
Castain scored the game-tying goal against Nevada in the 22nd minute and went on to score one more goal in the `Dogs 3-1 win over the Wolf Pack on Oct. 4. The senior midfielder scored the game-winning goal in the 99th minute of overtime to get the 1-0 victory over UNLV on Oct. 6. Castain leads the Bulldogs with eight goals this season and is currently tied for first in the MW with most goals.
Katie DeVault only allowed one goal while recording 11 saves over the weekend. The junior goalkeeper helped the Bulldogs to their third shutout of the year in extra time over UNLV (1-0, OT). She had eight saves in the shutout over the Rebels, including one huge save in the 88th minute which held the game scoreless at 0-0 at the end of regulation. DeVault also recorded three saves in the Fresno State win against Nevada on Friday, Oct. 4. With 62 saves this season, DeVault now sits in tied for second on the Fresno State all-time save list with 290 career saves.
This is the second time this season the Bulldogs have earned both MW weekly awards and the second time that Castain and DeVault have paired to sweep the weekly honors in the past two years. The duo earned the weekly awards on Oct. 8, 2012 after a 2-0 win at Wyoming.
After getting a pair of home wins, the 'Dogs continue their four-game home stand with two games in Bulldog Stadium next weekend. Fresno State hosts Utah State on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., and Boise State on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 12 p.m.
