FRESNO, Calif. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Fresno State defender Selena Gill , as a Second Team All-Region Scholar. This is the first time Gill has been honored with the award.

"I am so excited for Selena. Being selected All-Region academic is a great honor for her," said coach Steve Springthorpe. "Selena is the all-around student athlete. She not only helped us win on the field but she has been a winner in the classroom as well. It is not easy excelling in both areas and Selena has been able to juggle both areas so well."

Gill has earned several Academic accolades during her time as a Bulldog. She was named Academic All-WAC in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She also garnered Second Team All-WAC honors in 2007 and First Team All-WAC honors in 2008.

Gill helped the Bulldog defense record 11 shutouts and she scored her first goal against Idaho on Oct. 26.

The Bulldogs earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award after finishing the season and semester with a 3.31 GPA. Fresno State was among 65 college teams to earn this award.
