TEMPE, Ariz. - In the second game of Day One at the Kajikawa Classic, the Fresno State softball team fell to Texas A&M 8-0, Friday in Tempe, Ariz. Following a tough 5-4 loss to Fullerton, the Bulldogs were unable to respond as the sixth-ranked Aggies won soundly. Fresno State fell to 0-2, while the Aggies improved to 1-0.
Sophomore left hander Amanda Nesbitt started, but only lasted two-thirds of an inning before being replaced by freshman right hander Katie Nelson. Nesbitt opened the bottom of the first by getting two outs, but the Aggies quickly put up fiver runs before the frame was finished.
Nelson went three and two-thirds innings before Texas A&M's Megan Gibson homered to center, ending the game at 8-0.
"This was a tough way to start the season," said head coach Margie Wright, who enters her 21st season at Fresno State. "We've started this way before and we have a young team. All we can do is bounce back."
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m. as the Kajikawa Classic continues.
