    SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team opened play at the Gaucho Classic I hosted by Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs lost to No. 7 Missouri 4-0 and to San Diego 2-1.

    The `Dogs recorded a total of six hits on the day, including Brooke Ortiz' RBI single. Outfielder Brenna Moss recorded her third triple of the year in the second game of the day. She leads the team in triples and last season was among the best in the nation in hitting triples.

    The Bulldog pitching staff combined for five strikeouts in two games. Jill Compton led the way with three against Missouri.

    The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after hitting a two-run home run to center field.

    In the bottom of the third inning, Compton and the Bulldogs' defense sat the Tiger batters down in order. In next half inning, Stesha Brazil reached base after hitting a single up the middle for the first hit of the game for the `Dogs.

    The Tigers added a run in the fourth inning with a solo home run over the center field fence. Missouri increased its lead to 4-0 over the Bulldogs with another solo home run in the sixth inning.

    Compton recorded her fourth complete game of 2013. The freshman right-hander is 4-2 on the season after the `Dogs 4-0 loss to No. 7 Missouri.

    Moss led off the game against San Diego with a triple to right field. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead over San Diego after Brooke Ortiz hit a RBI single to shallow center field.

    The Toreros answered in the top of the second inning scoring two runs to take the lead 2-1.

    In the top of the third inning, the Bulldog defense turned their sixth double play of the season to end the inning and get out of a bases loaded jam without any Torero runners crossing home plate.

    Freshman Taylor Langdon threw five scoreless innings of relief. She struck out one and retired the side in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Langdon has an ERA of 1.00 in two appearances and seven innings pitched.

    The Bulldogs resume action at the Gaucho Classic I on Saturday, Feb. 16 against UC Santa Barbara at 9 a.m.
