CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The Dogs were one pitch away from extending their undefeated streak before Syracuse rallied for a 4-3 win on Saturday evening in the Cathedral City Classic.
Fresno State (5-1) suffered its first loss of the season in heart-breaking fashion when Michelle Moses' 1-2 pitch with two outs in the top of the seventh inning left the yard. Syracuse's Lacey Kohl belted the game-winning home run for the Orange, who were the designated visiting team in the neutral site game.
Moses dropped to 2-1 on the season in the circle despite eight strikeouts over her third complete game this year.
Syracuse (10-2) improved upon its program-best start and remained a perfect 3-0 in the Classic. The Orange knocked off No. 10 Hawai'i 3-2 and Utah 4-3 on Friday.
The Bulldogs will face Massachusetts at 11 a.m. and Oregon State at 1 p.m. on Sunday to finish play in Cathedral City.
