Mackin No-Hits San Diego State; Bulldogs Win Big

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Freshman Robin Mackin pitched a no-hitter and the Bulldogs rolled to an 11-0 victory in six innings over San Diego State, Saturday at the Aztec Classic. The 23rd-ranked Bulldogs got out to an early lead and never let up. Fresno State improved to 10-8, while San Diego State fell to 12-4.
The Bulldogs scored one in the first when sophomore Jenna Cervantez's RBI groundout scored junior Nichole Willis from third. Willis had reached base on an error and then advanced to third after a groundout and a fielder's choice.
Fresno State exploded for five runs in the fifth, started by sophomore Jenna Cervantez's triple to right center that scored sophomore Ashley White and Willis. Senior Christina Clark added two RBI with a double to left and then scored on freshman Haley Perkins' double to right.
The Bulldogs increased their lead with five more runs in the sixth. Perkins keyed the big inning with a triple to right that scored two runners. Clark was 3-for-4 on the afternoon with two runs scored and two RBI. Cervantez led all batters with four RBI.
Mackin was untouchable Saturday after losing a no-hitter on Friday in the bottom of the seventh. This time, Fresno State backed up Mackin with plenty of run support. Mackin walked four and struck out seven in her no-hit shutout while improving to 9-5 on the season.
Fresno State continues play in the Aztec classic with a night game against Oregon at 7 p.m.
