FRESNO, Calif. - In the second international tie-breaker game in two days, the No. 21 `Dogs came out on top with a single to right field in the bottom of the eighth by sophomore Haley Gilleland to score freshman Jody Badorine from second for a 1-0 victory on day two of the Bayer CropScience Classic at Bulldog Diamond.

"I was going to bunt then Coach told me to hit a pop fly as far as I could to get the sacrifice fly," Gilleland said. "That's what I tried to do and it ended up coming off of the bat just right and I drove it into right field."

Due to tie-breaker rules, the last out of the previous inning will be put on second at the end of the seventh inning as tournament rules state. Since Badorine was the final out she was put on second for the `Dogs and reached third on a passed ball.

Fresno State improves to 9-7 and picks up its first win of the Bayer CropScience Classic. Providence falls to 2-8 and also dropped a game to BYU in the first game of the day.

"They did it tonight," said Bulldog head coach Margie Wright. "I am super proud of them and that's all I can ask for. We are taking it one day at a time and it's all about improvement."

The Bulldogs recorded four hits off of the Friars pitcher Danielle Bertolette who doesn't get credit for Badorine's winning run.

Bulldog sophomore pitcher Morgan Melloh improves to 6-5 in the circle and drops her season ERA back down under a 2.00 to a 1.90. She had 14 strikeouts vs. the Friar batters to tie a season-high that she had on Thursday night vs. BYU.

Melloh had a no hitter through six and two-thirds and give up the only hit of the game to Providence to Christy Becker in the top of the seventh.

Haley Perkins singled to center in the first for the Bulldogs first hit of the game. Michelle Moses and Caitlin Stiglich each also had hits vs. PC.

Freshman Angelica Adam made her first appearance in her young Bulldog career as she pinch ran for Stiglich in the sixth.
