FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 25 Fresno State softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over St. Francis with a 15-0, 5 inning, win in the night cap.
Pounding out a season-high 19 hits, the Bulldogs had two players go 4-4 at the plate while freshman right hander Merryann Barr recorded her first collegiate win.
A total of five Bulldogs had multiple hit games while two had mutliple RBI performances.
Fresno State scored two runs in the first before tallying seven runs in the second and six more in the third for its sixth run-rule victory of the season.
In the first with one out and Clark on second, Barr reached on an error by the Terrier third baseman and advanced to second on the errant throw that allowed Clark to score. With two outs, Willis tripled to right center to score Barr.
In the second, Fresno State scored seven runs on seven hits. With two outs, the Bulldogs scored all of their runs. Barr plated the first run with a RBI single to center field. While the second run scored on an error, sophomore catcher Kristin Sylvester connected for a RBI double to left field to score Barr. Willis then tripled to right center to knock in Sylvester. Freshman designated player Robin Mackin followed with a double down the left field line and hit in Willis. Despite a Terrier pitching change, freshman left fielder Kori Sherman tripled to center field and plated two Bulldogs.
In the third, the Bulldogs scored six runs on eight hits on one out. With back-to-back singles and one out, Willis roped a two-run single to left. Sophomore second baseman Jenna Cervantez had a RBI single to center and Sherman added another run-scoring single before Clark finished the 'Dogs scoring with a RBI single to right.
Barr recorded her first collegiate win as she tossed a one-hitter while walking one and striking out five.
St. Francis starter Amanda Havdoglous allowed eight runs on nine hits as she fell to 0-3 on the season. Reliever Sarah Purtle threw the final 1.1 innings and yielded seven runs on 10 hits.
Fresno State (13-9) will host its annual Bulldog Classic presented by Bingham Toyota this week. The four-day, seven-team tournament field runs Thu.-Sun., March 9-12.
