    FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team improved to 2-0 in its own Bulldog Classic presented by Bingham Toyota with a 13-0, 5 inning win over Ball State.

    Freshman right hander Robin Mackin tossed her second career no-hitter, 61st in the program's history, while fanning 11 to improve to 13-5 on the season. Jamie Southern was the last Bulldog to throw a no-hitter at home when the four-time All-American and current national team member defeated Dartmouth 8-0 on March 25, 2005.

    Sophomore second baseman Jenna Cervantez and senior shortstop Christina Clark each hit home runs as the 'Dogs banged out 12 hits.

    Four Bulldogs tallied multiple hit and multiple RBI games as Cervantez (2-3, run, 3 RBI) led the way.

    Fresno State erupted for nine runs in the third before tacking on two more in the fourth and fifth innings for the run-rule victory. The nine-run third tied the school's single-game record when the Bulldogs scored nine in an inning against San Jose State on April 21, 1998.

    In the third, freshman designated player Merryann Barr got Fresno State on the board first with a one-out RBI single. Sophomore first baseman Kristin Sylvester picked up a RBI single as well before Mackin doubled down the left field line to knock in two. With two outs, Cervantez hit her first home run of the season with a two-run shot before junior centerfielder Shannon Garvin plated a Bulldog with another RBI single. Clark then followed with a two-run home run to left center.

     

     

    In the fourth with two outs, Cervantez recorded her third RBI of the game with a single to center field. Freshman right fielder Kori Sherman also picked up a RBI with a single up the middle.

    In the fifth with runners on first and second, Barr doubled to right center for another Bulldog run. Junior catcher Nichole Willis collected the final RBI after reaching safely on a fielder's choice.

    Ball State starting pitcher Amanda Pick took the loss after allowing six runs on five hits to fall to 2-2 overall. Reliever Quincy Duran pitched the final 2.1 innings and yielded seven runs on seven hits.

    Fresno State (15-9) continues tournament play tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. game against San Diego and a 3:00 p.m. contest versus Oregon State.
