FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State softball shutout Pacific 1-0 on Wednesday night in a midweek nonconference match up. The Bulldogs (18-13, 0-0 MW) out hit the Tigers 5-3 with senior Diane Runge notching a team-two hits and the game-winning RBI.

"Jill threw really well tonight," said Runge. "She came out did her job and threw a shutout. That's what we need on the mound. We had good defense to back her up. We had a few mishaps here and there, but we got the job done. It was a good team win."

Freshman Jill Compton threw her second career complete game shutout in the `Dogs win. She struck out four batters en route to her eighth win in the circle. Compton is now 8-9 on the season and dropped her ERA to 2.94. The righty has thrown 12 consecutive innings without allowing a run, which dates back to her last three appearances.

"The first inning was a little shaky, but coach gave me some adjustments and that helped me settle into a groove," Compton said of her start. "I knew that my defense would make plays behind me, like Kapri's awesome catch in left field."

In the top of the third, junior Kapri Angotti ended the inning after laying out for a ball and making the catch in left field. Angotti's catch kept Compton's no-hitter in tact until the Tigers recorded their first hit in the fourth inning.

In the bottom half of the third, Angotti got on base with a single to center field. Brenna Moss advanced Angotti with a sacrifice hit moving her into scoring position. Runge brought Angotti home with a single through the left side giving the `Dogs a 1-0 lead.

"Kapri got on base before me and without her getting on base there is no one to bring home," Runge said of driving in the winning run. "We did what we needed to get the job done."

Pacific threatened in the top of the fourth inning, but after giving up back-to-back hits, Compton stranded two Tiger runners in scoring position. Compton surrendered only three hits on the night.
