San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The Fresno State softball split a doubleheader against Cal Poly at Bob Janssen Field on Monday night. The Bulldogs lost the first game 6-5 and rebounded to win the night cap 6-1 in nine innings.
The `Dogs (19-14, 0-0 MW) out hit the Mustangs 16-5 in the second game and tallied a total of 26 hits in two games. Kapri Angotti led the team with five hits on the day. She was 3-for-4 in the night cap and 2-for-3 in the first game. She also collected an RBI. Michelle Solomon added four hits for the Bulldogs and went 3-for-5 in the second game of the day.
In the first game, Cal Poly scored first and took a temporary 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
The Bulldogs answered in the top of the third tying the game after Stesha Brazil hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Solomon drove in another run with her eighth double of the season. Catcher Paige Gumz plated the final run of the inning with another sacrifice fly as the `Dogs took the lead 3-1.
The Mustangs scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game 3-3.
In the top of the sixth inning, Angotti came to bat with the bases loaded and drove in the go ahead run with a single to left field as the Bulldogs regained the lead 4-3.
Cal Poly took back the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning and held on to win the first game 6-5.
Fresno State scored early in the second game with an RBI single from Brazil. Cal Poly answered with a run in the third inning tying the game 1-1.
Hannah Harris gave up one run in the third and then hurled six shutout innings. She threw a total of nine scoreless innings in her fifth win of the season. She struck out two in her 16th appearance of the season. Her one-run performance brings her ERA down to 2.42.
Brenna Moss broke up the tie in the top of the ninth inning by hitting an RBI single up the middle. Diane Runge followed with an RBI single through the left side to add another run. Brazil added two more insurance runs with a double to center field and Gumz brought home the fifth run of the inning with a single to right field extending the `Dogs lead 6-1.
The Bulldogs begin Mountain West action on Thursday, March 28 against Nevada at 6 p.m.
