FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 24 Fresno State softball team notched its 12th shutout of the season when the Bulldogs posted a 4-0 non-conference victory over Santa Clara.
Behind 11 hits, freshman right hander Robin Mackin picked up her 10th shutout win as she threw a three-hitter while walking four and striking out 10. Improving to 17-8 overall, Mackin also posted her 12th 10-strikeout game of the season.
Three 'Dogs recorded multiple hit games as senior All-America shortstop Christina Clark went 3-3 with a run while sophomore first baseman Kristin Sylvester (2-4, run, RBI, two doubles) and sophomore left fielder Ashley White (2-2) each had two hits.
Fresno State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after one inning of play when Sylvester connected for a two-run double and junior catcher Nichole Willis collected a RBI single.
The Bulldogs picked up their final run of the game when freshman designated player Merryann Barr notched a RBI single in the fourth.
Santa Clara starter Lisa Courter took the loss as she allowed three runs on five hits with a walk in 0.2 innings of work to go to 3-9 on the season. Reliever Jackie Morales pitched the final 3.1 innings and allowed one run on six hits while walking two and striking out one.
