April 3, 2010
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team won its second WAC series in a row by splitting a doubleheader with Boise State Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Diamond. Boise State took game one 1-0 while the `Dogs took game two 3-2. Fresno State won game one Friday, 5-0. Fresno State improves to 25-13 and 4-2 in the WAC while Boise State is now 14-21 and 4-2 in conference play as well.
Aubray Zell got the win in the circle for Boise State to improve to 5-5.
"I thought Boise played a really good game in the first game and their pitcher did a great job," said head coach Margie Wright. "Our hitting was a little lethargic. When we got aggressive we made things easy for them."
The `Dogs got one back off of Bronco pitcher Lela Work in the bottom of the inning. Moses reached base on an error and scored on a single to left by Caitlin Stiglich with two outs.
An Andrea Ortega single led off the Bulldog third inning and a two-run home run by Moses to right field put the `Dogs on top 3-2. It was the 12th of the season for Moses to tie her for 10th in a single season. Work left the game with no outs in the third and replaced by Zell.
With two outs in the seventh, Moses moved to the circle and got the final batter out to pick up her first career save.
Melloh improves to 10-8 on the year as she allowed just two runs on two hits in 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts.
Work got the loss for Boise State and she falls to 0-2.
The `Dogs had seven hits in the game, led by Rebecca Walker with two.
"The second game we still struggled a little bit but we found out that other people have to step up," Wright added. "I thought all three of our pitchers did a great job today."
