    LAS VEGAS - Fresno State softball opened the series against UNLV with a 4-1 loss on the road at Eller Media Stadium Friday night.

    The Bulldogs (21-16, 2-2 MW) scattered six hits on the night as the Rebels recorded nine. Paige Gumz and Vonnie Martin extended their hitting streaks to eight games after recording hits against UNLV.

    Martin, a junior from Plano, Texas, plated the `Dogs lone run in the top of the fourth inning with a double off the left field wall.

    The Rebels jumped ahead in the first inning with a 2-0 lead after four hits and added another run in the third inning. The Rebels scored their final run in the fifth inning to lead 4-1.

    Defensively, the `Dogs turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the third inning and have 15 double plays on the season.

    The three game series resumes on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m at Eller Media Stadium. Fans can follow action on GameTracker or watch a live video stream.
