    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Fresno State softball team lost a doubleheader to Mountain West rival Colorado State on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs (25-20, 6-5 MW) lost to the Rams 3-2 in the first game and 704 in the night cap.

    Freshman pitcher Jill Compton had a career best performance in the first game of the day. The right hander struck out a career-high 11 batters. Her previous career best was 10 batters, which was against then-No. 6 Cal. She threw her 15th complete game of the season against Colorado State.

    Catcher Paige Gumz drove in the first run for Fresno State in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Colorado State tied the game with a solo home run to right field. After giving up the long ball, Compton struck out the side to tie her previous best of 10 strikeouts.

    Kapri Angotti gave the `Dogs the lead with a RBI single in the seventh inning. Fresno State headed to bottom half of the inning with a 2-1 lead. The Rams added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.

    In the second game, the `Dogs jumped ahead early in the first inning scoring three runs on two hits. Michelle Solomon plated the first run with a RBI single through the left side. Junior Stesha Brazil and Paige Gumz each drove in a run giving the Bulldogs the lead 3-0.

     

     

    A sacrifice fly in the second inning gave the Rams a run and cut Fresno State's lead 3-1. Colorado State hit three home runs in the fourth inning to score six runs taking the lead 7-3.

    In the fifth inning, Solomon drove in her second run of the game with a single through the right side as the `Dogs trailed 7-4.

    Solomon and Brenna Moss recorded a multi-hit game in the night cap as both were 2-for-3. The Bulldogs conclude the series against Colorado State on Sunday, April 21 at noon.
