FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 23 Fresno State softball team used clutch hitting and rode the arm of another outstanding pitching performance to post a 1-0 Western Athletic Conference victory over Hawai'i.
In the bottom of the sixth with two outs and a full count, sophomore first baseman Kristin Sylvester roped a RBI single to left field that scored senior All-America shortstop Christina Clark, who led the inning off with her 39th walk of the season.
Freshman right hander Robin Mackin notched her 11th shutout win of the season. Scattering four hits, she walked none and struck out 10 for her 15th ten-strikeout game on the year. With the victory, Mackin collected her seventh straight win and 23rd of the season.
Junior catcher Nichole Willis was the lone Bulldog to post a multiple hit game after going 2-3. Clark was the only Bulldog to collect an extra base hit as she picked up her 15th double of the season.
Hawai'i pitcher Courtney Baughman took the loss and dropped to 7-4 on the year after allowing one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
