Bulldogs Win Game One 3-2 of WAC Tournament

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The No. 2 seeded Fresno State softball team defeated No. 5 seed New Mexico State 3-2 in the first round of the WAC Tournament Wednesday night. The No. 10/10 Bulldogs improved to 50-9 on the season, the first time the Bulldogs have won 50 games since the 2002 season and the 11th time in school history.The Bulldogs will play No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech who defeated No. 3 Hawai'i 2-1. The game is scheduled for Thursday at 3:15 p.m. in the winner's bracket.
New Mexico State struck first in the top of the first for one run but the Bulldogs came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. Haley Perkins was hit by a pitch and scored off a single to center field by Aja Scheuber.
Haley Gilleland hit a double down the left field line with one out in the second and scored on an error by the Aggie shortstop to give the `Dogs the 2-1 lead after two.
The Aggies tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth off an unearned run.
Mallory Perkins would score the winning run on a fielder's choice.
No. 6 San Jose State defeated No. 7 Utah State in game one, 8-2. San Jose State plays No. 1 Nevada at 1 p.m. Utah State will play New Mexico State in a loser out game at 5:30 p.m.
