FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 25 Fresno State softball team advances to Saturday's WAC Tournament Championship at 2 p.m. after the `Dogs defeated Louisiana Tech 5-0. The `Dogs will face No. 2 Nevada who defeated Louisiana Tech 2-1 in nine innings.

Fresno State improved to 35-18 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the double elimination tournament, which means if the `Dogs win game one tomorrow they will win their third WAC Tournament Title. If the `Dogs drop game one, a second and deciding game will be played at 5 p.m. with the winner earning an automatic berth to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

"I thought our team played extremely well," said head coach Margie Wright. "We had to adjust to three different pitchers and I thought everyone did a great job doing that. I thought Morgan pitched well, I thought we had really good defense and I think all and all, it was a great game."

Haley Gilleland was hit by a pitch and after a fielder's choice by Alexis Lujan, a two-out bloop single to right field by Caitlin Stiglich drove in the games first run for a 1-0 Bulldog lead in the first.

The Lady Techsters got two on in the bottom of the second but a strikeout by Morgan Melloh and a turned double play by Nicole Angene got the `Dogs out of the inning.

Coronado and Angene hit back-to-back doubles in the top of the fourth as the `Dogs took a 2-0 lead.

The third double of the inning for the `Dogs was a shot to left by Gilleland as Angene scored from third as the `Dogs went up 3-0.

A double steal by GIlleland and Michelle Moses scored Gilleland from third to extend the lead to 4-0

Melloh's third strikeout of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning was her 400th on the season as she became the fourth pitcher in NCAA history to record back-to-back 400 strikeout seasons in her first two years in college. The other three were Monica Abbott (Tennessee), Cat Osterman (Texas) and Angelica Selden (UCLA). Melloh would strikeout the side to end the inning.

The first out of the bottom of the fifth inning for Louisiana Tech was the 403rd strikeout of the season for Melloh, moving her into sole possession of second on the WAC single-season list.

Perkins singled to lead off the sixth followed by a fielder's choice that send Gilleland to first as Perkins was safe at second. A single to left by Moses sent Perkins home. A walk to Alexis Lujan loaded the bases with no outs.

Melloh ended the game with 11 strikeouts and picked up her 27 win of the season. Megan Krieg got the loss for La. Tech as she allowed three runs on five hits in 3.0 innings.
