FRESNO, Calif. - College Sports Madness began unveiling its top 44 softball teams for 2013 and Fresno State came in at No. 31. The Bulldogs were also named the top team in the Mountain West Conference by the sports website.

"It is always great to get preseason recognition, especially heading into a new conference," said head coach Trisha Ford. "We can't let the hype distract us from our team goals of taking it one game at a time and competing for a MW Championship. We are excited to get on the diamond and start the season."

The Bulldogs host two non-conference tournaments and play a total of six tournaments before beginning their first season in the MW. The `Dogs face eight teams that competed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including three at Bulldog Diamond during the Fresno State Classic. Fresno State returns 13 from last year's roster that played in the conference championship game.

Among those returning are juniors Brooke Ortiz and Stesha Brazil along with sophomore Brenna Moss. Ortiz, who started every game at second base in 2012, led the team for second-straight year with a .312 batting average. She also recorded six doubles, four triples and 18 RBI. Brazil started every game last season and had a .304 batting average, which was second best on the team behind fellow infielder Ortiz. Brazil tallied 32 runs, 55 hits and 14 doubles. Moss started 58-of-59 games in center field with a .298 batting average and a conference best 198 at-bats. She was tied for 13th in the nation with five triples.

The `Dogs welcome eight new faces to the 2013 roster, which includes six freshmen and two transfers. The Bulldogs will look to Hannah Harris, Jillian Compton and Whitney Smith to make an impact this season. All three garnered all-conference honors from high school.
