    Fresno State Softball Notes We Get Acrobat Reader

    FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State softball heads south March 1-3 for the San Diego State Classic I. It is the third weekend in a row that the Bulldogs play away from Bulldog Diamond. The `Dogs face BYU, No. 12/10 UCLA, Long Beach State, Utah State and San Diego.

    Compton Throws First No-Hitter
    Freshman Jill Compton became the 20th Bulldog softball player to throw a no-hitter on Feb. 23 against St. Mary's. Compton's no-no was the 70th in program history and she became the first freshman to not allow a hit since 2006 when Robin Mackin accomplished the feat twice. Compton tied her career-high of five strikeouts en route to her first career no-hitter.

    On the Road Again
    Fresno State is set to play 10 games on the road in the month of February, 11 in March and a total of 33 away from Bulldog in 2013. The Bulldogs third-straight road trip is March 1-3 at the San Diego State Classic I. The 'Dogs had a road record of 24-8 and 9-10 in neutral territory in 2012. The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the road and 2-5 in neutral territory this season.

    Fresno State Scores First
    The Bulldogs plan in 2013 is to be aggressive on offense and the `Dogs are doing just that. Fresno State has outscored its opponents 20-9 in the first inning. The Bulldogs are 6-4 when scoring first and 5-4 when scoring in the first inning. The `Dogs have also outscored opponents 13-8 in the fourth inning and are 8-1 when leading after the fourth inning.

    Scouting the San Diego Classic I
    BYU: The Bulldogs have an overall record of 8-3 against Cougars. The `Dogs won two and lost one to BYU in 2012. The Cougars are off to a 5-10 start in 2013. Gordy Bravo is hitting .476 with four doubles and nine RBI in 13 starts. In the circle, Hannah Howell is 2-6 with an ERA of 3.42 in eight starts and 11 appearances. She has 46 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work.

    UCLA: Fresno State is 11-42 against UCLA in program history. The Bulldogs defeated the Bruins 6-3 in their last meeting in 2012. UCLA is 13-1 on the year and 10-0 on neutral fields. Stephany LaRosa is hitting .450 with five doubles and four home runs. She has a slugging percentage of .925. Ally Carda is 8-0 with two complete game shutouts in seven starts. She has struck out 59 in 43.2 innings pitched.

    Utah State: The Bulldogs have an all-time record of 31-11 against Utah State. In 2012, the `Dogs swept the Aggies in a three-game series. Utah State is 0-15 on the year and have played all 15 games away from Logan, Utah. Kassandra Uchida leads the team hitting .316 with 12 hits and added eight walks. Mandy Harmon has struck out a team best 38 in nine starts. She has an ERA of 6.94 and a 0-10 record in the circle.

    Long Beach State: Fresno State has a 34-15 overall record against the 49ers. The Bulldogs lost the last meeting between the two programs in 2012. Long Beach State has an overall mark of 7-6. Hannah De Gaetano has three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and is hitting .356 on the year. Erin Wesley-Jones is 4-4 in the circle with an ERA of 3.92 in eight starts. She has 59 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched.

    San Diego: The Bulldogs face San Diego for the third and final time in 2013. The previous two meetings were decided by one run and the latest meeting was deciding in extra innings. In four meetings, Fresno State is 1-3 against the Toreros. SD has a 6-6 overall record in 2013. Lauren Tomey is hitting .400 with 16 hits and two walks. Cassidy Coleman is 3-3 with 1.64 ERA in six starts and seven appearances. She leads the team with 50 strikeouts in 42.2 innings of work.
