SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After having its San Diego Classic games cancelled on both Friday and Saturday, the Fresno State softball team (10-5) now looks ahead to two rescheduled games in Sunday's final day action.
Medium to heavy showers Saturday morning prevented the tarp from being pulled, and more intermittent showers were forecast, so Fresno State's 1:30 p.m. game vs. Utah was cancelled, as was every other game on Saturday's revised docket.
Based on Sunday's more favorable forecasts, the 'Dogs hope to play two games at the SDSU Softball Stadium vs. Ole Miss (11-6) at 10 a.m. and Lehigh (0-4) at 12:30 p.m.
The 'Dogs are still waiting to play their first game of the four-day event after it had games originally scheduled on Friday vs. UIC and BYU and on Saturday vs. Ole Miss and No. 2 Tennessee.
More information on the tournament is available at the www.GoAztecs.com website, and a complete tourney schedule is available at the San Diego Classic Tournament Page.
The only action in the tourney so far came on Thursday evening. BYU (7-10) opened with a 6-3 win over No. 2 Tennessee (14-1), thanks to a three-run seventh inning. The Cougars also lost to San Diego State, 2-0, on Thursday, while No. 2 UT topped SDSU, 3-1, and Grand Canyon edged San Diego, 3-1.
The 'Dogs faced the No. 2 Volunteers in Cathedral City last Sunday, and the returning NCAA runners-up came back from a 4-1 deficit in the third inning for a narrow 5-4 victory.
